‘Mauao’ personal piece

Tauranga, New Zealand

A personal piece honouring Mauao - the sacred maunga standing guard at the entrance to Tauranga Harbour. More than a landmark, Mauao holds deep significance in local Māori tradition and has watched over this coastline for generations. This piece was a chance to paint something purely for myself: a tribute to the mountain that shapes the view from almost everywhere in this city, and to the place I call home.
